Pasargad Alloy Steel Complex (Manufacturing Company, P.J.S) is the largest iron and steel producer in the private sector in Iran. The company is dedicated to establishing a comprehensive steelmaking complex that encompasses the entire steelmaking cycle, from iron ore extraction to the production of various rolled alloy steel products in accordance with international standards. PASCO is established in the vicinity of the city of Shiraz in the Fars province. Our complex is dedicated to continuous innovation, optimal resource utilization, adherence to environmentally sustainable practices, the development and retention of exceptional human resource capital, maximization of capital return efficiency, and the positive impact on the surrounding community.
From its inception, the complex has been designed in such a manner that after obtaining iron-rich rocks from mines, subsequent stages including crushing and beneficiation of iron ore, conversion of concentrate to pellets, transformation of pellets into sponge iron take place. After melting, further smelting of sponge iron into crude steel and introducing alloyed steels through secondary metallurgy techniques such as the use of a ladle furnace (LF) and a vacuum degassing unit (VD) or a vacuum oxygen decarburization unit (VOD) enable the production of semi-finished and finished products, including Special Bar Quality Mills (SBQ), wire, seamless pipes, and the execution of heat treatment operations and non-destructive inspections on the products.
The initial phase included a melting unit, open and closed casting units, which commenced operations in 2013. Furthermore, the gas refining and carbon removal unit (VD/VOD) began operations in early autumn of 2019. The casting development program reached its final stage in 2022, enabling the company to produce billets and blooms of various sizes and profiles, including round sections. The steelmaking unit has a capacity of 1.5 million tons per year.
The second phase saw the commissioning of the direct reduction sponge iron production unit with a capacity of 1.8 million tons per year in late 2019. The sponge iron units utilize Midrex technology and, with technological modifications, possess the ability to charge hot sponge iron into the melting furnace. These technological advancements have resulted in energy savings and increased melting speed of sponge iron.
The third phase involves the operation of the lime production unit with an annual capacity of 70,000 tons and the pelletizing unit with an annual capacity of 3.4 million tons since mid-2020.
The fourth phase consists of the production units for downstream steel products, including:
- The production of Special Bar Quality Mills (SBQ) and steel wire with a capacity of 450,000 tons per year.
- The production of steel wire rods with a capacity of 450,000 tons per year.
- The production of seamless pipes with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year, which will enter production in 2023.
- The project for the production of train rails with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year is currently underway.
The fifth phase, the concentration and beneficiation unit for iron ore, commenced operations in late 2023, with a capacity of 3.5 million tons per year.
The sixth phase involves the heat treatment and non-destructive inspection unit with a capacity of 120,000 tons per year, which is scheduled to commence operations in 2023.
This complex has the capacity to meet domestic needs and play a crucial role as a supplier to downstream steel industries. The produced items can encompass a wide range of outcomes downstream industries, including train wheels and axles, train needles, high-velocity bullets, bearings, welding electrodes and wires, cold and hot screws and nuts, door hinges, steel springs, specialized alloyed shafts, flanges, fittings, and marine profiles.
With the construction of the southern railway corridor, the company will be connected to the national railway network, leading to a reduction in road traffic, lower transportation costs, and the creation of a significant and sustainable source of income for the country's railway system.
